Een bezoek aan 2 bijzondere steden, Metz en Nancy waarvan de eerste meer Duits is dan Frans, maar dat maakt het nu juist zo aangenaam. Een prachtige mix van allerlei Architectuurtijden en -stijlen. Romeins, Gotiek, Rococo, Jugendstil/Art Nouveau, het komt allemaal voorbij. En natuurlijk een fraai vleugje moderne architectuur.
Daarnaast zeker de wereldberoemde kapel van Le Corbusier, in Ronchamp. Ervaar het mysterieuze van een van de laatste gebouwen die hij realiseerde.
En misschien brengen we een bezoek aan Jehanne, en aan een van de oudste bisschopssteden van Frankrijk. En misschien zelfs nog aan een interessant restant Romeinse bouwkunst.
Kortom, een aantrekkelijke goedgevulde reis, die veel onbekends laat zien.
Bovendien, we overnachten in een onverwacht restauratieproject. Het is nog nooit eerder opengesteld geweest!
Door de beperkte afstanden is er alle tijd om de steden op een ontspannen manier te leren kennen, en optimaal van de dagen te genieten.

Deze streek is van oudsher een gewild gebied voor zowel Frankrijk als Duitsland. Eigenlijk pas sinds de laatste wereldoorlog is de status volledig onbetwist. Metz wisselde in 1918 voor het laatst officieel van land, en werd via het Verdrag van Versailles definitief Frans. Hoewel in de 2e Wereldoorlog de stad natuurlijk formeel weer Duits werd, maar dat is in geen enkel verdrag ooit erkend.
Metz is van oorsprong een Romeinse stad, die in de 6e en 7e eeuw de hoofdstad was van Austrasië, een van de Merovingische rijken in de 6e, 7e en deels 8e eeuw. Sommigen beschouwen dit land zelfs als de oorsprong van het Karolingische Rijk. Feit is dat de bisschop van Metz, Arnulf een voorvader was van Karel de Grote.
De stad Nancy heeft een wat minder roemrijk verleden en is ook wat jonger, “pas” gesticht in de 11e eeuw, en na een periode van groei in de 16e eeuw tot hoofdstad van het onafhankelijke Hertogdom Lotharingen geworden. De grootste bloei jkende de stad waarschijnlijk in de periode dat de ex-Koning van Polen, Stanislas hier zijn residentie vestigde, als Hertog van Lotharingen, benoemd door zijn schoonzoon Lodewijk XV.

De reis duurt 5 dagen. Vertrek op zaterdag met dezelfde dag nog een bezoek aan de eerste stad. Terugkomst op woensdag, wat later in de avond, om optimaal van de laatste stad te kunnen genieten.

Iedereen kan deelnemen aan de reis, maar interesse in (oudere) architectuur en geschiedenis komt natuurlijk wel van pas.
In een ontspannen en toegankelijke verteltrant maak ik de architectuur begrijpelijk en laat je met andere ogen naar de gebouwen kijken. Wie al eens met mij mee geweest is, of mijn lezingen heeft bijgewoond weet hoe dat gaat.
Het maximale aantal deelnemers is 6. De reis gaat door bij minimaal 3 deelnemers
Door het kleine aantal deelnemers kan iedereen aan de gesprekken en discussies mee doen, en vragen stellen.
Het is wel handig als je nog wat vlot ter been bent. We dwalen per slot van rekening wel door enkele steden.

Dankzij het feit dat ik deze streek al een jaar of 25 regelmatig doorkruis ken ik deze behoorlijk goed. En weet ik dat de meeste toeristen de steden Metz en Nancy voorbij rijden, in ieder geval het overgrote deel landgenoten dat naar Frankrijk trekt, maar ook onze Zuider- en Oosterburen. Het maakt dat de steden niet echt overspoeld worden door toeristen, waardoor je er nog heerlijk kunt dwalen en deze ongehinderd kunt ontdekken.
Bovendien weet ik er enkele volstrekt onbekende maar hele leuke hoogtepunten te vinden, dankzij mijn eigen ontdekkingstochten.

Op mijn eigen wijze, bekend of niet, neem ik je mee op ontdekking door de steden en door het landschap. Ik laat je de 2 steden ontdekken, ik toon je fraaie plekken in het landschap, ik leid je overal naar toe. Ik vertel je over de geschiedenis van de gebouwen, laat je de architectuur ontdekken, met een grap en een anekdote op zijn tijd.

Eenmaal op de hoofdovernachtingsplek, waar we 3 nachten verblijven, zijn er nog maar kleine verplaatsingen. Dat geeft aangenaam veel tijd voor beleving en ontspanning. Dat hoofdovernachtingsplek heeft zelfs een zeer aangename open haard waaraan het heerlijk bijkomen is van een dag indrukken opdoen.
